Barbara Jean Thompson is Director of the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Program and the Collegiate Science and Technology Program; two grant programs that assist low-income, first-generation and underrepresented students in pursuing their goals of professional licensure or graduate study. She has served as a board member-at-large for AEEE, as President as President of the Association twice, as coordinator of the New York contingent for Policy Seminar, and Fair Share Chairperson. She has also served on multiple Strategic Planning and Conference Committees was co-designer of the Peer Review Process and has assisted in certifying past AEEE elections. Ms. Thompson is a Faculty Senator to the College Senate representing three academic programs and all TRIO grants and is a member of the President’s Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Barbara received her MS in History (1995) and her BA in American Studies (1992) from the State University of New York College at Brockport and has taught Early and Modern America, Slavery in the Ante-bellum South, and African American Cultural Issues. She completed doctoral course work in Educational Leadership and Policy: History of Education at the University of Buffalo. Her research interests include the American Civil Rights Movement, race and gender issues, and the consequences of privilege and power in American society. Ms. Thompson received the Felicita Rodriguez Torres Award for "consistent and meaningful service to AEEE" in 2007 and 2023.
